Stumbled across this while searching for some information on the Cornell site:
The Game Design Initiative at Cornell University (GDIAC) […] is a group of students, faculty, alumni, and community members who are devoted to the establishment of game design as an academic discipline with a five-fold mission to do the following:
- Train students for careers as game designers
- Facilitate interdisciplinary learning
- Research the social and technical aspects of games
- Motivate youth to pursue technical studies
- Develop the theory and practice of game design
There is a series of two classes you can take in the Computer Science Department. The Projects Gallery of the site has screenshots of the student teams’ games, many of which are available for download.
I tried a few; some had broken links, others would not install correctly, and the couple that I was able to install, well, just weren’t fun to play. Still, how much do you want to bet these kids will be making more than me or you within a year of graduating?
