Class Notes, November/December 2000

We interrupt this regularly scheduled class column to bring you late-breaking news concerning Reunion 2001. Planning for Reunion 2001, scheduled for June 7-10, 2001 , is in full swing. Matthew Heberger, Reunion chair, Katrina James, president and Reunion co-chair, and Erin Sullivan, vice president of fund-raising, attended Reunion Kickoff on campus.  At the end of the weekend, we were energized and full of ideas for Reunion weekend! Classmates should expect a weekend full of fun, fiesta, food, and frolicking. Reunion attendees will have the opportunity to participate in some tried-and-true 5-year Reunion activities. However, we have come up with some new ideas on how to keep ‘96ers entertained and happy.

Now we all know that in the four years since graduation, many of us have changed jobs, gone back to school, and moved around a great deal. Be sure to contact Alumni House and give them your updated home and e-mail addresses, so you don’t miss your Reunion 2001 invitation. You can also do this online at www.classof96.cornell.edu. While you’re there, check out the list of missing classmates. Hopefully, your name is not on this list, but if it is, update that address! Also, if you know of addresses for any classmates on the MIA list, please let us know. You just might receive a special treat if you do! Visit the class website periodically to receive updated reunion information. Also, you may receive updates automatically by e-mail if you sign up for the ‘96 listserv (instructions are on the website).

And now, a special message from Erin Sullivan, fund-raising VP and 2001 Reunion campaign chair: The time has come to kick off our reunion year giving campaign. The class’s goal this year is to raise $60,000 and have 790 classmates make a gift. This level of donors would set a new class record of 25 percent participation. We are looking not only for overall donation, but overall participation at some level. So even if you have never given in the past, please think about making a gift in honor of our 5th Reunion . Any gift made from July 2000 to June 2001 will count toward our overall contribution, whether made to a specific college or department, or to the university’s general fund.

What the class really needs right now are volunteers. Your volunteer participation could range from contacting classmates directly, to participating in a local phone-a-thon. If you are interested in any volunteer activities, please contact me at ees1@cornell.edu. Your request will be forwarded to one of our committee chairs; Robert Cunjak is chairing the Ivy Society campaign, and Esther Kang is chairing the campaign for overall participation. With your volunteer efforts, the Class of 1996 will break that participation record!

We will return to our regularly scheduled programming with the next issue of Cornell Magazine. So keep that news coming, and we hope to see you during Reunion.
